"Message in a Bottle" necklace

This piece too has been inspired from Mary Tucker's work. The basket weaving here is a bit different. There were about 15 different pieces of thin copper wire going in all the directions of the oval, all together as I formed each coil and shaped the "bottle". I have pictures of work in progress because it looked interesting...but they are in my hubby's iPhone, and he and his iPhone are in India at the moment. When I get hold of those pictures, I will post those too.

I tried making a bottle...a bit like the small perfume bottles (this is a teeny bit more than an inch in height), but it looks like a jar more than a bottle. :-). However, tiny perfume bottles do look like jars. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL! This bottle carries a small scroll of paper, that has a message from a wonderful man for his beautiful beloved. He is away at the moment from her, and they both miss each other a lot. So I thought she could wear a message in his own handwriting near her heart while he was away. I will soon be giving this to her. And I hope she will like it. She usually wears pretty conservative jewelry, so I am hoping this won't be waaaaaay too weird for her. LOL! Anyhow, even if she doesn't wear it, she can keep it with her.

The piece is made with copper wire, and has tiny fresh water pearls on it. It has been LOS-ed to give it a rich antique look and depth. The clasp is hand made too.

I'm glad to be an inspiration, but you have inspired me right back!! I really love that you used 15 wires to wrap up the coil. The textures you got from the wrap are incredible and the shape of your bottle is beautiful.
I feel I have a 'comrade in arms' here and I can't wait to try your technique in my work!
You've done a beautiful thing here!

Thank you Kay and Mary!! Mary, you keep saying that about yourself in your blog....but your work is sooooo amazing, I don't even know what to say anymore. lol! And I can't wait to see the bottle you make. It will be beyond words again!

This time I had shaped it just with my fingers, but I am thinking I will sculpt some bottle shapes with my polymer clay and use those as molds to shape my wire around next time. Lets see how well I can use the polymer clay...hope to make some usable shapes.

I'm starting to shape more with my fingers also. I love how your bottle flares in and out at the top. I haven't tried that yet.
I know I am very self critical, sorry about that:) I sometimes don't know what to say to me either;)

Hugs - Mary

Lol...you know when I read your self-critical words on your blog, I feel totally speechless. I stare at your work, and wonder...where is the fault? What is wrong? What is the problem she can see? And I find nothing. I love it that you feel I'm your comrade in arms. LOL! Will be awesome fun to try out different weavings, various shapes etc. I yet have to try one with a hinge or a latch. Still don't have the courage. Tried it once with the 18 gauge and 16 gauge, and it was a mess. I should try with 20 gauge maybe. My next bottle will have a crystal point for a stopper. Lets see how well I can manage that. LOL!

Thank you Vivi! I'm loving making these too...going to explore different shapes and sizes of bottles. And then add them to my online store one day.

Thanks Daisy! I would LOVE to see this in chainmaille! Do let me know when you make it...don't want to miss it.

I too want to add some large center stones within the coil some where. I look forward to your crystal stopper! You've handled your wire so beautifully and expertly, I'm sure it will look great!
